Technician (Test Facilities - La Vernia & Uvalde)

Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. Utilizing advanced methodologies and proprietary in-house tools, BakerRisk® engineers assess the consequences and risks associated with potentially catastrophic events including explosions, fires, and toxic material releases.

Summary

Performs routine tasks assigned by project managers and engineers of limited complexity. Activities performed are hands-on and consistent with testing technician support.

Tasks include test preparation, test fixture fabrication, assistance in conducting tests, instrumentation installation, test result reporting, equipment and facility maintenance, and cleanup of test area.

Primary responsibility is operational support for BakerRisk testing projects at the Wilfred E. Baker Test Facility in La Vernia, Texas with secondary support for the Box Canyon Test Facility west of Uvalde, Texas. Travel may be required but will mostly be limited to the local area in and around San Antonio. Specific operational tasks will vary by work site and may include apparatus readiness and assisting data acquisition, recording, and processing.

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drilling, cutting, general construction and fabrication work (metal, wood, and concrete).
  • General equipment maintenance and limited mechanical repair tasks.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors during all seasons.
  • Technical decisions will be minimal and limited to a routine nature with ample precedent or clearly defined procedures as guidance.
  • Safety related issues will be addressed by the project manager at each test site but are also the responsibility of the engineering technician.
  • Receives training, instruction, and assistance on specific assignment objectives.
  • Works under close supervision.
  • Work is reviewed for accuracy and adequacy and conformance with prescribed procedures; tasks may be completed with only partial knowledge of overall project objectives.

Required Skills & Relevant Experience

The Technician must have at least 1 year of experience in hands-on support that would be applicable to serving as a testing technician. Basic computer skills are required as well as the capability to use common hand, power, and specialty tools and the ability to learn new construction and fabrication techniques.
